51.2V 25Ah LiFePO4 Battery Pack for Power Tools and Robots

High Discharge 51.2V 25Ah 26650 LiFePO4 Battery Pack for Power Tools & Robots

The manufacturer of heavy-duty garden equipment and robot platforms approached CM Batteries because their existing battery pack kept tripping due to high current load at startup and during operation .The customer needed a 51.2V 25Ah LiFePO4 battery pack that could handle the startup surge of a mower cutting through tough grass or a robot platform climbing a grade, without changing the existing battery compartment..

CM Batteries re-engineered the pack around 20C high-rate 26650 cells, developed a 51.2V 25Ah LiFePO4 battery pack in a 16S10P configuration. The pack is rated for 50A continuous and 100A peak discharge — eliminating the nuisance shutdowns without changing the machine’s battery compartment. This high-rate build extends CM Batteries’ custom 26650 battery pack range into applications with demanding surge-current profiles.

Power Tool & Robotics Customer Overview

The customer manufactures both professional-grade electric power and garden equipment and mobile robot chassis for warehouse and outdoor logistics applications. Both product lines share the same core requirement: dependable power delivery under sudden, high-current load spikes rather than a steady, predictable draw.

Because their equipment is sold to professional operators who expect all-day reliability, any battery-related shutdown directly affects the customer’s reputation with commercial buyers and rental fleets.

BMS Over-Current Threshold Below Motor Inrush Current

The motor’s inrush current at startup and under sudden load exceeded the previous pack’s protection threshold, cutting power even with a fully charged battery.

CMB Solution:
Used 20C high-rate 26650 cells rated for a 100A peak discharge window, giving the pack enough surge headroom to absorb startup and load spikes without tripping.

Insufficient Peak-Discharge Headroom for Load Transients

Robot units climbing ramps or crossing rough ground needed short bursts of extra torque that the previous pack’s continuous-only rating wasn’t built to deliver.

CMB Solution:
Sized the pack for 50A continuous plus 100A peak, matching the real load profile of climbing and acceleration events rather than a flat average draw.

No RS485 Interface for Fleet-Level Diagnostics

Robot fleet operators had no way to feed pack status into the robot’s own control system for fleet-wide monitoring.

CMB Solution:
Added RS485 communication so the pack reports directly into the robot’s main controller alongside its other system diagnostics.

51.2V 25Ah High Discharge Battery Pack FAQs

What does 20C discharge rate battery pack mean?

“C” is a rate expressed relative to a cell’s capacity. A 20C rating means a single cell can discharge at 20 times its rated capacity — for a 2.5Ah cell, that’s about 50A per cell, which is what allows the overall pack to support high system-level currents.

What's the difference between continuous and peak discharge current?

Continuous discharge current is the level a pack can sustain indefinitely without overheating. Peak discharge current is a higher level the pack can handle for a short burst — typically seconds — such as during motor startup or a sudden load increase.

Is this 51.2V 25Ah LiFePO4 battery pack a good fit for my robotics project?

In case your robot is witnessing any power spikes that involve climbing, obstacle avoidance, and quick acceleration, then a high-frequency design such as this one will stand more ground than regular continuous battery packs. See more robotics power solutions on CMB’s robot battery page.
